WE PRODUCEELOQUENT WINESBRIMMING WITH FLAVOUR
Our personal take on each individual grape variety is always front and centre. We take a hands-off approach to vinification wherever possible – and we definitely don’t go in for gimmicks because we want to preserve the genuine personality of our wines all the way to the bottle. And our painstaking artisanal approach in the vineyards and outstanding quality standards in the cellar help us to accomplish precisely that.
We treat nature with the respect it deserves. Our wines embody the region, as well as its soil and climate. Loess, slate, granite and gneiss give the soil in our vineyards its unique character. The vines are shaped by sunshine and cool nighttime breezes. And we draw on our experience and instincts to respond to all of these influences.

We want to know how our plants are doing and exactly what they need. That’s why we spend so much time in the vineyards and tend the vines by hand as far as possible. We do not use any herbicides and we’re more than happy to roll up our sleeves and get weeding ourselves – it’s good for the environment and has a positive impact on the end product.
We work with nature, always in line with all environmental regulations. Breathing life into the soil is really important to us. That’s why we spread compost and grape residues – known as marc – in the vineyards. We green the vineyards with vegetation that provides shade in the summer and enhances the soil structure. Not only does this conserve water, it also helps us to combat natural soil erosion. Leaf pruning is always done carefully by hand, meaning we can respond quickly, flexibly and effectively to climatic conditions that vary from one year to the next. It’s important to us that we keep moving with the times – this was the thinking behind our decision to turn over part of our operations to organic growing methods.
Our winery has been certified in accordance with the Nachhaltig Austria sustainability standards for many years now.
CELLAR-TALES
Every year, the wines in the cellar tell us whether all the steps we took out in the vineyards were the right ones. Harvesting at the right time is vital. We only pick the grapes when they are ripe. After that, they are gently pressed. As soon as vinification starts, it’s all about precision and flexibility – we don’t leave anything to chance. Although we use modern technology in the cellar, traditional methods still have a big part to play. Most of our wines are matured in steel tanks, but some varieties are barrel-aged.
We love to experiment and we’re always open to new ideas. And when we do something innovative, we do it with a passion. We do a lot of tasting and every trip we take in our free time has some connection with wine. Head winemaker Helmut is his own man and he makes his own decisions – about what the grapes need or whether we should strike out in new directions. It’s this inquisitive nature that is the key to producing a varied and exciting range of wines.
